MapleStory Classic World Rogue build and leveling guide, Lv 10-30

Lv 10-309 min read
I am a Rogue. Where do the points go and where do I train?
iWhat Rogue build and leveling, Lv 10-30 is
The ten-to-thirty apprenticeship for both thief forks, and the one 1st job where the weapon you pick decides which attack you take. This page is the climb from 10 to 30: what to stand on in each band and which quests are worth the detour. The Rogue page has the other half - every skill, the whole SP order with its levels worked out, and the gear behind it.

Where the points go

: LUK

LUK is your damage and your evasion, and on a claw or a dagger a point of it is worth two to three points of anything else. Accuracy is mostly DEX: the formula reads DEX at twice LUK’s weight for every branch except magicians, and every claw above level 10 demands DEX anyway, so that requirement is doing double duty. STR you can nearly ignore - no claw asks for it and only two rungs of the dagger ladder do - but the damage formula still reads it as a secondary stat alongside DEX, so a stray point there is small rather than dead.

: the order, not the levels
  1. 1.The stars attack, if you are heading for Assassin. Heading for Bandit? Put these twenty points into Double Stab (4001002) instead and carry a dagger.
  2. 2.+15 evasion, so more of what swings at you misses, and +15 accuracy, so less of what you swing at does. A thief lives on the first half of that.
  3. 3.Three points, to open Dark Sight.
  4. 4.Invisibility, which is the best escape button in 1st job.

The whole order, with the level each step lands at, is on the class page. It is kept in one place so the two cannot disagree.

What to watch
  • Pick your weapon before you spend a point. Throwing stars are ammunition, not a weapon: the thing in your hand is a claw, and the stars are a stack in your bag that it throws. So the two roads are a claw and stars, which leads to Assassin, or a dagger, which leads to Bandit - and putting 20 points into the wrong one of the two attacks below is the most expensive mistake available in 1st job.
  • Dark Sight does not open until Disorder is at 3.
  • Thieves have the lowest defence in the game and none of a magician’s MP to hide behind. Nimble Body is not optional.

Read off the item rows by the job each row names, so this list gains a type when the game does. Lower speed stages are faster; the attack speed page has what each stage means and what a Booster does to it.

The advancement

First job is level 10 for every branch, and the Thief instructor stands in Kerning City. Second job is level 30, through a quest the snapshot files under Thief. Both towns are on Victoria Island and a new character is not, which is the first thing that actually stops people: the first steps guide has the crossing.
