What's new in the MapleStory Classic World Public Release

What did the Public Release add, and what did it take away?
iWhat What's new in the Public Release is
Classic World went from Closed Online Test 2 to the Public Release on 6 October 2026. This is what that build brought, read out of its files rather than its announcements: first what the original game never had, then what is new since the second test, then what the test had and the release does not. Every number is counted when the page loads.

The short answer

309 new items, 1 new boss (Shade), 1 new monster, 6 new maps, 2 homes with 61 pieces to place and 52 new hairstyles and faces; third job and Ossyria removed. The headline is housing, which the original game never had. Everything that went keeps its page here, marked CoT2.

The game in numbers

iWhere this page's numbers come from
Built from overview.json, patch_notes.json, items.json, quests.json, maps.json, cash_shop.json, data/cot2/. Nothing on this page is written from memory, and where a number comes from somewhere other than the client’s own files it says so beside itself.

The Public Release column is the release’s own count; what Closed Online Test 2 had and the release does not is kept on this site beside it and counted after the plus. The full diff, 3,961 rows in 10 sections, is the changelog, and each kind has a list of its own: new items, new monsters, new maps, new quests and everything removed.

Housing and furniture

Nothing like this was in the original game, the early MapleStory that Classic World starts from. Later versions of MapleStory went their own way, and the claim here is only that narrow one.

Housing: a home of your own

Henesys and Kerning City each get a home behind a gold door, with a Housing Registrar beside it. The client carries 61 pieces to put inside: 52 pieces of furniture in a Henesys set and a Kerning City set, 2 storage chests, 6 crafting stations, one per discipline, and a straw training dummy. 22 of them do something when you stand by them: lights switch on, wardrobes open, benches seat you and beds let you lie down.

How you get a home, what it costs and whether it is switched on at launch are the server’s; the housing guide lists what the files leave open.

New boss: Shade

The bosses guide has Shade beside every other boss in the client, with where each spawns and how often.

New items

309 new items and pieces of equipment, most of them chairs and furniture. Every one of them is listed with its art; these are the ones that are new in kind.

Aurora Stamps

The Cash Shop data adds 4 Mystery Fashion Crates (Mystery Fashion Crate, Founder's Mystery Fashion Crate, Halloween Mystery Fashion Crate, Aurora Mystery Fashion Crate), and the Founder's Mystery Fashion Crate is on sale at 3,500 NX. The stamp is where an unwanted result goes: “An Aurora Stamp obtained by reusing items from the Mystery Fashion Crate. Aurora Stamps can be exchanged for items that can be traded before being equipped.”

A random cosmetic box is not new in itself; turning what it gives you into a currency is. What the stamps buy is decided by the server.

New hair and faces

52 new hairstyles and faces, the collaboration’s among them, and 1 renamed. The Cash Shop data also carries 5 Coloring Prism lines that recolour cosmetics, none of them on sale.

Frieren collaboration items

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

A collaboration with the anime: 7 hair coupons, 8 face coupons and 15 outfit sets and selectors. Two weapon covers do more than look the part: Frieren's Staff grants Ordinary Offensive Magic (Zoltraak) and Fern's Staff grants Demon-Killing Magic (Zoltraak), each a screen-wide cut-in of the character casting it.

Neither staff is on sale in this build, and how the collaboration is handed out is not in the files.

New quests and events

The Caretaker's Ledger

6 quests from level 28, 24,540 EXP and 5,352 mesos in all, that start in The Circulation Desk, a new room off the Magic Library, with Lyn the Librarian, Sabrina the Scribe and Jon the Justicar. The last one gives the Faded Maple Leaf Earrings.

Citizenship, up to Citizen of Honor

35 new Citizenship quests in 7 story lines, from level 27 to 57, carry both towns’ stories past where the test stopped. The two lines at level 57 end in the Henesys Earrings and the Kerning City Earrings, and Kerning City’s leads to Slade in a new cabin.

Event questsEvent1012--

A quest is new when the frozen Closed Online Test 2 export does not have it; a line is the quests that share a parent. EXP and mesos are the quest rows’ own rewards added up. The event quests pay through scripts the export does not carry, so their rows read nothing.

Changed monsters and skills

62 monsters revised. Two new: Shade, a level 48 boss in the Cabin of the Forsaken, and the Orange Slime. Ninety-seven gone: the 40 that spawned only in Ossyria, and 57 the second test carried with no map to spawn on. Of the 62 revised, 40 give less EXP and 7 more (King Slime went from 248 to 2,400), 39 are harder to hit, and Zombie Mushmom went from level 50 to 55. Every one, field by field

62 skills revised. Nothing new. The 70 removed are all 3rd job, seven for each of the ten classes. The 62 revised are all 1st and 2nd job: 59 were reworded, Rush, Slash Blast, Arrow Bomb, Iron Arrow and Poison Breath now hit six monsters instead of four while Holy Arrow hits one instead of three, Rush’s cooldown went from 1 second to 2, Arrow Bomb and Iron Arrow lost the weapon from their names, and the eight Final Attack skills were given a hit count and a duration. Every one, field by field

WASD movement in the Modern Style preset

The original game moved with the arrow keys. The client’s Modern Style preset read “Standard layout with Quickslots mapped to QWER and 1-4.” in Closed Online Test 2, and reads “Action-game layout using WASD for movement and QERT / ZXCV for Quickslots.” in the Public Release.

From the client's own strings: the export carries no key presets.

What was removed

The release dropped these. Their pages stay on this site, marked CoT2: From Closed Online Test 2 (Beta 2). Not in the Public Release; kept here as a record., so a link from the test still lands somewhere, and no guide here sends a live player to them.

Forgotten Hollow

32 maps of the test’s own cave region under Victoria Island, with its quests and its monsters.

Third job

The 10 third-job classes (Crusader, Dragon Knight, White Knight, F/P Mage, I/L Mage, Priest, Ranger, Sniper, Chief Bandit, Hermit) and their 70 skills. The planner still loads a build that uses one, marked.
