MapleStory Classic World class tier list (Public Release)

Lv 706 min read
Which class is strongest, and at what?
iWhat Class tier list, axis by axis is
The ten second-job classes of the Public Release, each run through the damage engine at level 70 against the character printed on the damage rankings, then tiered one axis at a time. Every letter has a number under it and every tier has its cutoff beside it. There is no overall grade, and the panel at the foot says why.

The short answer

At level 70, with the weapon and stats printed for each class and nothing else, Bandit hits one monster hardest, Crossbowman does the most to a crowd in one cast, and Fighter, Page, Spearman and Hunter get the most damage out of each MP point. Against Tauromacis, the hardest monster to hit up to level 70, F/P Wizard, I/L Wizard and Cleric land nearly every attack and Fighter, Page, Spearman, Assassin and Bandit hit it less than 70% of the time.

Built from skills.json, data/extract/skills.json, items.json, monsters.json, maps.json, src/lib/calc/damage.ts. Nothing on this page is written from memory, and where a number comes from somewhere other than the client’s own files it says so beside itself.

A damage number is the middle of the roll on one monster, at the skill’s top rank, before the monster’s defence. Accuracy is the hit test’s own chance against Tauromacis (level 70, 41 avoid).

Counted: each class’s own second-job attacks and its branch’s first-job ones, which a level 70 character still casts. Left out: every Final Attack, which is a rider on a swing you were making anyway rather than a cast, and Arrow Blow, Power Knockback and Double Shot for the Crossbowman, Double Stab for the Assassin and Lucky Seven for the Bandit, because the client ties each to a weapon that class’s character is not holding.

Why there is no overall grade

Because adding the four columns up needs a weight for each, and the weight is the whole argument. A class that is C on a crowd and S on one target is the right pick for a boss and the wrong one for a training map, and a single letter would have to decide which of those you are doing. The damage rankings refuse to put a mage and a warrior in one table for the same reason: two formulas over two stats. Here each axis is one number with one meaning, so a class can be compared on it; a blend of four would be a number nobody can check.

What this does not measure

  • How fast each attack comes out. Nothing in the client attaches a cast time to a skill, so these are per cast, not per second. The animations and speed stages that would decide it are on the attack speed page.
  • Reach. The client measures a hit box for 5 of the 23 attacks counted here and leaves the rest to the weapon, whose reach is not in the files, so there is nothing to tier them on. Weapon reach has the ones it does measure.
  • HP and MP per level. How much a level-up adds is the server’s roll and in none of the files; HP and MP has what the client does say.
  • Gear, scrolls, buffs and a party. Each class is the bare character the damage rankings print: the best weapon of its family a level 70 can hold, with the strongest stars or arrows it may fire, every AP point in its own stat, and nothing else. Real gear lifts every row.
  • Other monsters. Accuracy is measured against Tauromacis, the highest avoid of the 67 monsters the Public Release places up to level 70. Against anything easier every class hits more often.
