Pick this if: You are an Assassin and you want your damage roughly to double.

CoT2: From Closed Online Test 2 (Beta 2). Not in the Public Release; kept here as a record. The Public Release has no 3rd job. a Hermit is kept from Closed Online Test 2 with its own skills as the test had them, so a build saved then still loads. Only the skills it keeps from earlier jobs are the live game’s, at the Public Release’s numbers. What the release removed

Hermit, in short

recorded for this site, not from the exportthe exact formulas ›

You move more than anyone else and you dodge instead of soaking.

What it brings4

  • Shadow Partner summons a shadow that repeats your attacks for +40% extra damage, five minutes a cast on a Summoning Rock.
  • Avenger hits four monsters at 150%, four stars a throw.
  • Shadow Meso throws 500 mesos for eight times the damage.
  • Shadow Web snares four monsters for five seconds.

Watch out for3

  • Shadow Meso needs Meso Saver at 5, and Flash Jump needs Avenger at 5.
  • Shadow Partner burns a Summoning Rock on every cast.
  • Shadow Meso literally spends mesos to deal damage, 500 every throw at max.

Where the points go

  • LUKmainLUK is your damage and your evasion, and on a claw or a dagger a point of it is worth two to three points of anything else.
  • DEXsecondYour accuracy, which the formula reads at twice the weight of LUK, and the requirement on nearly every claw above level 10.
  • never comes back, and what catches people is the requirement on the weapon rather than the damage: the Gear tab prices every rung.

Every Hermit skill

CoT2: From Closed Online Test 2 (Beta 2). Not in the Public Release; kept here as a record.
iHow to read a skill card

The line under each name is what the skill does at its last rank, read off the row. max N beside the name holds that against what a single point buys, which is the argument for spending the rest of them.

Anywhere on a card opens it, for every rank, its reach and what it rolls. Words like rank, mastery or booster are underlined wherever they are used and carry their own explanation.

151points earned, level 70–120170ranks the 7 skills hold19ranks you cannot afford

You cannot max everything, and nothing in the game says so. For an order to spend them in, take one somebody has played.

Hermit builds ›
iHow the bill is worked out

One point at the advancement and three a level, until level 120 stops this pool filling. The ranks are every rank the 7 skills hold between them, which is why the two numbers are not the same one counted twice.

Choosing what to leave out is the whole of building this class. The builds page is where somebody else's choice is written down, with the levels they made it at.

Damage3
iWhat "Damage" groups together

The tooltip states a damage or healing number. Mostly these are what you press to kill things; one or two are buffs that add damage rather than deal it, which is why the heading says damage and not attacks.

What the next rungs open

Nothing: a Hermit was the top of this branch in Closed Online Test 2. Level 70 to 120 was the whole of the rest of the ladder, and its skills were the last book you were handed.

Becoming a Hermit

CoT2: From Closed Online Test 2 (Beta 2). Not in the Public Release; kept here as a record. The Public Release has no 3rd job

a Hermit was an Assassin first in Closed Online Test 2, and every one of its skills is in the test’s files. The advancement between the two never was: no quest chain for it anywhere. The walk below is the one this game has had for twenty years, recorded rather than read out of the files, and every place and person it names is a row the test carried (El Nath and the rest of Ossyria are kept from it, marked), so the map beside a step is the test’s map.

What no test can check is the order of it, and nothing here says the live game will add a 3rd job this way, or at all.

  1. 1

    Be a level 70 Assassin.

a Hermit is what an Assassin becomes, so the whole of the route to here runs through that job. Its own advancement - the level 30 chain in Kerning City - is on its page, drawn step by step.

Level 70 is the series' own number rather than a row in this export. It is the level in the badge at the top of this page, the level the skill point pool starts filling at, and the level every number below is drawn from - and it is the one figure here the snapshot does not vouch for.

  2. 2

Reach El Nath and speak to Arec.

El Nath is the mountain town above Orbis, reached by the tower rather than on foot, and like the rest of Ossyria it is Closed Online Test 2's: the Public Release does not have it. Arec is one of four instructors standing in Chief's Residence - the test's rows put all four of them on that one map.

    Talk to Arec
  3. 3

    Go back to Dark Lord.

Arec sends you home to the instructor who gave you your second job. They are where they have always been, and they are the one who sets the test.

    Talk to Dark Lord
  4. 4

Beat your instructor's clone at Monkey Swamp II.

West out of Kerning City, into the swamp. A Door of Dimension there opens onto a copy of Dark Lord; beating it yields the Black Charm. Nothing in the export marks the door, so the map is the row and the door is not.

  5. 5

Trade the Black Charm for the Necklace of Agility.

Dark Lord takes the charm and gives the necklace. That is one of the two things Arec wants back.

    Talk to Dark Lord
  6. 6

Answer five questions at Holy Ground at the Snowfield.

Climb to it from Sharp Cliff II, above El Nath. The snapshot puts exactly one NPC on that map and calls it Holy Stone - not "the Wise Man", which is the name every write-up of this uses. Five questions, and one wrong answer fails the whole attempt.

    Talk to Holy Stone
  7. 7

Bring both necklaces back to Arec.

The Necklace of Agility from your own instructor and the Necklace of Wisdom from the quiz. That is the advancement.

    Talk to Arec
  8. 8

    Learn 7 new skills.

This is the half Closed Online Test 2's files are complete on. Every Hermit skill is kept with the test's per-rank numbers, and all 7 of them are on the first tab of this page.

What it costs you

  • A Dark Crystal per attempt. The quiz charges one to sit it, and charges again if you miss a single question. They are bought from Alcaster in El Nath, and his own quest chain has to be finished before he will sell you one. Both he and his chain are Closed Online Test 2 rows; the crystal itself is still an item in the Public Release.
  • The Black Charm. Off the clone. It is not an item row in either build, so nothing here can show you its icon.
  • Both necklaces. One traded from the charm, one won from the quiz. Neither is an item row in either build - they arrive with an advancement the test did not carry and the release does not have.

The Holy Stone’s questions

five in a row, one crystal an attempt

Every question the pool is known to draw from, searchable - because one wrong answer out of five costs the whole attempt and another Dark Crystal. Answers this snapshot can settle are marked; the rest are what players recorded for the older game, and are worth reading as a strong hint rather than a guarantee.

The weapon ladder
iHow the ladder was built

Every weapon the class can hold, with everything that is not an upgrade removed: a rung is a weapon that beats anything you could already be carrying at its level, so “gain” is what it adds over the rung above it. Sidegrades and later weaker weapons are left out and the item browser still has them. The ladder starts from level 1 on purpose - the rungs below your level are the ones you arrived holding.

Best armour for LUK, by slot
iHow these were picked

The highest LUK in each slot a Thief can wear, then attack, then defence.

Nothing is left out for being low level, because armour does not stop being wearable: the best piece in several of these slots wants half the level of the worst, and the level on each row is when you can put it on.

Where the game ships one piece as a male and a female version, both are named and the numbers are the same either way.

Where the best piece a male character can wear and the best a female character can wear are two different items, each is listed with its own level and stat.
