Nexon's announcements, newest first. Each one links back to the original post.
About this page

Written by hand

An announcement isn’t in the game files, so each entry is somebody reading Nexon’s post and noting what it said. The link beside it is the post itself.

Global service only

China (Shengqu) and Taiwan (Gamania) announce their own. Four rows with the same picture are Nexon reusing one maintenance banner.

From the files: what the Public Release adds

The client's home badge: a house under a moon, in a ring of flowers

A home of your own. Henesys and Kerning City each get a house behind a gold door, and the client carries 61 pieces to put in one: furniture to sit on, lie on and switch on, storage chests, a crafting station for each of the 6 disciplines and a training dummy. Nothing like it was in the original game.

  • Shade, a level 48 boss in Cabin of the Forsaken, past a hidden door in Niora Hospital.
  • The Caretaker's Ledger: 6 quests from The Circulation Desk, a new room off the Magic Library.
  • 35 new Citizenship quests in 7 story lines, up to Citizen of Honor in both towns.
  • A Frieren collaboration: 30 hair and face coupons and outfit sets, and two staffs that call Frieren or Fern onto the screen.

Inkwell: Classic World is not a one-to-one remake, and the roadmap waits for MapleStory Fest

Nexon America interviews Hanbyeol Oh, the head of Global MapleStory, known to players as Inkwell. Classic World is meant as a slower, more social second way into MapleStory rather than a copy of the old game, and it will not replay the original update order: Grand Launch brings a piece of content not yet shown, a new boss is in development, and a fuller post-launch roadmap is due at MapleStory Fest in October. The Cash Shop is meant to avoid anything that directly affects stats or growth, and the small Classic World team was hired alongside Global MapleStory’s rather than taken from it.

Founder’s Access opens at 11:00 AM PDT on 6 October, and can be prepared for now

Nexon’s preparation guide for launch day. Founder’s Access opens on Tuesday 6 October at 11:00 AM PDT (2:00 PM EDT, 8:00 PM CEST, 4:00 AM AEST on the 7th). The Nexon Launcher carries Classic World as a smaller standalone client that cannot be downloaded until that day, so what can be done now is installing the launcher and signing in; on Steam the two games ship as one build, so installing and updating MapleStory now is the pre-download. Steam players also need their Nexon account linked to Steam, which the website’s Account Settings can do today.

Nexon’s Classic World FAQ: both doors open at 11:00 AM PDT, and only NX is shared

Nexon’s answers to the questions it keeps getting. Founder’s Access opens at 11:00 AM PDT on 6 October and Grand Launch at 11:00 AM PDT on 21 October, on the Nexon Launcher and on Steam, with no beta key. NX is the only thing shared with MapleStory: not names, not Maple Points, not MVP status, and Challenger World does not transfer. A ban in one is a ban in both, only one of the two can be open at a time, English is supported with Spanish in beta, macOS and DualSense, DualShock and Xbox controllers are supported, and Founder’s Package items expire unless claimed from the mailbox by 11:59 PM UTC on 30 November.

Nexon says it is taking legal action against private MapleStory servers

A letter to the whole MapleStory community, Classic World included. Nexon says formal legal action against the operators of unauthorised servers is under way and has already closed a number of them, asks the rest to shut down and delete the content, and tells players that connecting to one breaks the terms of service and puts their credentials, their personal information and anything they have paid an operator outside anything Nexon can help with.

Steam sells the Zakum Package alone, and cannot upgrade it

Nexon explains the two storefronts. Steam carries the Zakum Package and nothing else, because Steam’s platform policies do not support the upgrade path and Nexon would rather sell one tier than risk duplicate purchases; the Nexon webstore sells all three and is the only place a tier can be moved up before the sale closes. The Zakum Package itself is identical on both, and one purchase on either platform is the whole of it.
